in an orange grove, the way we always said we would

The Night VI is good company during solitary, late night work sessions (like right now). perhaps a little surprising, their music also fits during bleary-eyed morning workouts. something in the isolation and heartache in Sophie-Rose’s lyrics triggers a melancholy that moves me to press 250lbs off my chest, and keeps me focused enough to massage type and image at 2AM.

many years ago, i wrote a letter to a faraway girlfriend and signed it, “a late night typesetter with the strength of ten men” — hyperbole, of course, but The Night VI captures so well that feeling of working past midnight, then climbing into bed alone, exhausted, and just a little bit dolorous.
